We introduced you to the knight himself, now its time to see the range.

Check out these two out there examples from Paul Smith, most people are under the impression that when it comes to shirts such a brand only really deal within the more formal range. Your wrong. The two you see above both feature exceptional designs, guaranteed to get people looking! On one side of the spectrum you have a old school floral design which has it’s own spin on it by making it digital floral, and the other a denim look which feature’s extraordinary patterns and pictures. Definitely cool, definitely different, definitely something to be seen in.

A sweatshirt should indeed be something on the agenda for this years Christmas holidays. We at SINGLETONMEETSHORSLEY couldn’t be more in love with this example, great colour, simple design and would pair up perfectly with a sweet set of vintage trainers.

Accessories are just one of many more items that can be found on the Paul Smith site, perfect for gifts or even if you just fancy adding that little extra to your order, you know how it is, trying to get free postage. I promise you there’ll be something you cant take your eyes off. Most items come with the timeless multicolour stripe design which is something that they include somewhere within all of there products. Treat yourself, after all it is soon to be Christmas.

Diesel – Beauty and style, it’s in their genes ( jeans get it? )

“Strange to name a brand after fuel don’t you think? But, weirdly enough, it seems right.” That’s what Renzo Rosso must of thought, back in 1978, the owner and CEO of by far one of the biggest players in denim, let alone fashion designing, DIESEL. Becoming a multi-billion business worldwide, Diesel has cemented itself as “the” jeans brand for the youth of today. Modern cuts and clean washes make these a huge favourite for SINGLETONMEETSHORSLEY and with the examples above, you’re sure to agree. Look for styles such as; THANAZ, THAVAR, SHIONER (all shown), which are your skinny and slim fit’s that you should desire. Again, (as said in one of my older posts- Double Denim) stick to clean washes, so no major fading, distressing or rips (selvedge is hugely recommended, turn ups are a style enhancer, so be on the look out). These jeans will see you through all occassions whether that be, a less formal dress down at the office, a night out with the lads or shopping with the missus.

But why stop there? If your going to buy a pair of these ,why not team them with the correct footwear? As shown, a smart shoe is definitely the way to go, brogues, desert boots and loafers are ideal. Even sneakers are a good bet,(we’re not totally against trainers!) but as always, keep them vintage.

A man to learn about! Sir Paul Smith.

Your approached in the street and someone says to you “Paul Smith?” Initially it’s ” Who the f**k is that?” then, after a short pause I hope you begin to think of the brand, it’s good because yes I’m sure thats what the man behind it all wants you to think, but thats not what I want you to think. Forget the shops, the shoes, the clothing, oh and lets not forget the accessories as I want you to think of the man himself, Sir Paul Smith. I imagine not many of you could tell me much about him, maybe that he’s the founder of the brand yes, but what he looks like or where he comes from, not a chance.

Born in Nottingham Sir Paul Smith began his life loving to cycle, fashion never really crossed his mind. It wasn’t until he was recovering from a cycling accident that he was then lead towards the world of art, design and creativity he’d previously known nothing about. Smith then soon went on to open his first shop in 1970, which just so happened to be one of the first retailers within the UK to import Levi 501’s, this then set him in good stead and he quickly created a name for himself along with his brand.

Year to date, he is without a shadow of a doubt the most successful British fashion designer ever. Remember that shop, In 1970, in his home town of Nottingham? Well since then Sir Paul Smith has defined the way three generations of men have dressed, not only in Nottingham, not only the UK but worldwide! Never forget that.

Mondaine Watches – Far from being mundane!

The “Swiss Federal Railway” can’t be wrong for choosing MONDAINE as their official timekeeper. All 824 stations have their clocks made by the Swiss manufacturers, and all are engineered with exceptional quality and precise timing, vital on the lines in the glorious Alps or the hustle and bustle of the Plateau regions. The simplistic design of their watches captures all of the elements of the official railway pieces but, all beautifully crafted onto your wrist. The “Classic” range (as shown above) come in at a rather reasonable price (RRP: £135 Approx.) and in many strap and face designs. We at SINGLETONMEETSHORSLEY say, if there’s one thing you should get this Christmas, then might it be one of these, the time couldn’t be better (excuse the pun).

BASS. Trust me from experience, no pain no gain!

If it’s pain, blisters and potentially blood your after, then look no further because I am telling you now, these will definitely cut the mustard! No ok, all jokes aside these are a seriously lairy pair of loafers and they should not be taken lightly. So if I was BASS, I might consider a warning sticker on the side of the box. I’d be lying if I said these didn’t need breaking in, because my god they do, but it just all boils down to whether you have it in you to grin and bare it.

I think its just about time to give you their name, these are the Layton’s and in my opinion you’ll be hard pushed to find another pair with such style. I actually own a pair of these myself and I can’t quite put my finger on it whether it’s the traditional kiltie and tassel design or the timeless burgundy leather. They can’t help but remain my favourite pair of shoes to wear at any given time for any given occasion. Footwear can never really be too smart, they can only get smarter! Don’t be put off wearing these anywhere, just question whether your outfit is cool enough to keep up with the vibe these put on the concrete. Thats the only advice you need, other than keep them shiny. No one likes a dull or dirty Loafer!

Comme des Garçons – Put your money where you wallet is.

COMME DES GARÇONS has all the class and quality you’d come to expect from it’s rich Japanese roots (you were waiting for me to say France weren’t you?). Yes, indeed it does have bonds to Paris, although actually based in Tokyo since the late 60’s, it’s gained some what of a cult status. Producing anything and everything from menswear, womenswear,  accessories, perfumes and even jewellery, Comme Des Garçons has renowned its self for fresh colours, distressed styles and influential uses of the colour black. This brings me to its rather nice collection of wallets.

As you should know, your wallet is one of your most important accessories. You could be dressed head to toe in the finest of luxury menswear and still be let down, if your carrying one of those rather vulgar £10 “Genuine Leather” abominations. This is were these beauties come in. Made of 100% “Premium Cowhide” leather, these are of an exceptional quality and are unique in everyway. Usually its a case of fumberling around for change and  dropping half of it on the floor, not now. The SA3100 range (both above RRP: £55)  come with inside coin pouches eliminating that problem. With plenty of space for notes and cards also, you’ll see a shining difference in your day to day life and so will everyone else when you whip this out to pay for your Nando’s.

The SA3100 range are available at all good Comme Des Garcons stockists and their flagship store.

Vintage. Floral. Button Down. Can only mean one thing – PRETTY GREEN

So, you’re after that vintage piece for your wardrobe? Can’t be bothered with wandering around your local charity shop, or paying quite frankly through the roof prices for something you know has already been worn by some, sweaty human being a hundred times over. Don’t get me wrong that is definitely what vintage is all about, but agreed its not for everyone and my advice would be, try it once, because you’ll always find that one mental item of clothing that none of your mates will ever have.

Anyway long story short for everything else theres always Pretty Green . Now if you already know who’s the brains behind it then you’ll already fully understand the look and the style that Pretty Green are putting onto the high street. If your still clueless, how about the band Oasis ? Try a quick google search, then you’ll soon come to terms with what they achieve, thanks to founder and designer (oasis member) Liam Gallagher.

They really do put vintage designs back onto the high street, that we can buy brand new. I mean, where on earth they source the fabric to make a shirt like the ones above is beyond me. And thats what I really like from them, their shirts. Super cool, super bright, loads going on and lets be honest, you have to have balls to pull one of these off. The shirt you see above is a relatively new release  and check out there full black and green label range.

Pretty Green regularly release new products, so here on SINGLETONMEETSHORSLEY we say its one for your safari bookmarks.

Everyone wears them, but this winters bright. This winters ORANGE.

Don’t worry keep reading, I’m not actually talking about orange wednesday’s, you’re not the only one who hates those painstaking adverts. I am actually talking about one of the most prestigious labels in outerwear to date, yes you’ve guessed it we’re on the subject of Penfield. I wouldn’t be surprised if most of you have already heard of them, but be honest now do you take time out of your life to log onto their website and check out there latest seasonal releases? Probably not, but there really is no reason why you shouldn’t.

Just check out this Penfield “Hartland” parka seen above, I’ve lost count as to how many winters the parka has seen itself on the streets but they don’t grow old. Everyone should have that 5 year old parka tucked away in the wardrobe ready for any eventuality, if you don’t or in fact if you do then the Hartland is definatley something you need to add to your collection. You’ll be extremely hard pushed to find quality like this at a reasonable price, just look at the pictures, thats all the clarification you need!

You’re not blind and you’re certainly not losing your mind, this jacket is actually bright orange, it may not be everyones cup of tea but it is definitely a BOLD statement for winter 2012 and you should not be put off. Why look like every other geezer wearing a olive green parka when you can look like the only geezer wearing a bright orange one. Penfield really have pushed the boat out this winter with the Hartland and we can’t help but say well done.

You’re buying it, yes thats right, no if’s, no buts you’re buying it now.

Barbour “Caister” Fairisle Knits – You will wish that your gran had made these for you this Christmas

Yet again, BARBOUR have impressed us with their “Heritage” range.  With the re-release of the ever popular “Caister” they’ve made their point clear that its here to stay. It seems that in general, the fairisle jumper will remain a mainstaple of the modern man’s wardrobe and never leave our shores. The “Caister” has been issued in 4 colours this season, (olive and barley above, navy and grey below), and all contrast beautifully in traditional knitted patterns. We were mad for these last season and SINGLETONMEETSHORSLEY are still hot for these now. We have a sneaky suspicion you will too.

Double Denim – A raw cotton combo or a faded mistake in the past?

Double Denim is one of those fashion “faux pas” that is either adored or loathed. It is hard to get the look right, but by following our simple tips, you can make sure you don’t look like you belong in “Take That” back in the 90’s (Sorry Robbie!)

1. Keep the denim simple – No acid washes! Also keep distressing to a minimum, no holes in knees please!

2. Make sure fit is slim/skinny – Depending on comfort go for either fit, but try not to imitate above!

3. Never completely match denim – What ever you do, don’t wear head to toe in the same shade.  This is not the Wild West!

4. Matching blue with black is fine – Don’t listen to the naysayers. A blue denim shirt and black skinnys is a winning match!

5. Get shearling in your denim jacket – Big this season, don’t miss out.

6. Selvedge is nice turned up on jeans – Makes all the difference to your look.

7. Finally, rock it all with pride!

That’s a thumbs up from Robbie & SINGLETONMEETSHORSLEY!
